Social Bookmarking – The Easiest Way to Advertize Your Website

Social bookmarking is the habit or practice of saving bookmarks to a web site and “tagging”. Social bookmarking sites are a popular way to store, classify, share and search links. Social bookmarking started as a method for Internet users to keep bookmarks that can easily be accessed online and shared with other users in the Web. These bookmarks are given tags to label as well as organize them and the tags illustrate a glimpse of the main content for easier access.

In a social bookmarking system, internet users save links to web pages that they would like to remember and/or share. These social bookmarks are normally public, and can be saved privately, shared only with specified people or groups, shared only inside certain networks, or another combination of public and private domains. Only the allowed people can view these social bookmarks sequentially, by category or tags, or via a search engine.

But don’t let the use of NoFollow fool you, the search engines are looking beyond the incoming links from social bookmarking sites to gauge their value to their search indexes. The external metadata compiled via user generated descriptions, tags, titles and classification is incredibly valued by the search engines, as in the same philosophy as anchored backlinks, descriptive content about a web site defined by the users of that site who are not associated with the marketing or coding of that site, can be extremely powerful in judging the importance and relevance of the content and tags which are used on that site.

Social bookmarking brings to the equation something that search engines can’t compete with the human touch. Just as the internet has millions of pages, so it also has millions of users, and if even a fraction of those users share the sites they’ve found interesting, useful or just plain bizarre with each other, there is suddenly a vast resource for anyone searching the web to tap into.

Social bookmarking allows you to share your bookmarks with other Internet users in a collaborative sort of way. Normally, social bookmarking takes place on sites where the users can create an account to add their bookmarks to. It’s also helpful to do it on sites that allow you to insert keywords for the types of bookmarks you add. That way, they all can be organized and set into categories that other users can easily search through.

Social bookmarking is a grassroots process that allows users to establish the value of a specific web page, article, podcast, or video. By bookmarking an item, individuals are casting a vote to endorse that specific resource. The idea is that social bookmarking gives a resource credibility; the more users who bookmark a specific item, the more valuable the resource is considered to be. Social bookmarking is all about the collective voice. Most of the social bookmarking networks increase the profile of items that receive a lot of bookmarks. It probably won’t be long before the major search engines begin to include social bookmarks as a part of their ranking algorithms.

Once you become a part of a social bookmarking site, you become a member of that community. You and all the other users are there for the same thing and you can help each other out in finding sites that will benefit all of you. It also makes searching the Web so much easier and quicker. Another great thing is that once you’re part of a site, you can access it from any computer and any browser. That way, you’re never limited in seeing the social bookmarks you’ve been waiting for.

So, the question, “Should you give any attention to social bookmarking?” And the answer is, make your site worthy of bookmarking. Bookmarks appear to web spiders as links to your page, and that makes them very valuable SEO tools. For some search engines, the more bookmarks that lead back to your site, the more “votes” you get! Links which are bookmarked by lots of users on social bookmarking web sites are effectively been “voted for” In fact Google has already started to feature StumbleUpon Reviews in its search results.

On the web-site side, be sure to include the code snippets provided by social bookmarking organizations that allow users to tag your site easily. Then, maintain it all. Don’t just forget your account completely. If you do, eventually it will disappear and all the advantage of having one will go as well. Instead, continue using social bookmarking. Over time, the rewards will be increased traffic to your web site.

Social bookmarking sites help you find great content on the internet. These websites allow users to post content that they like. They also allow them to list and share this content with other users. You need to become a member of these sites first. Some of them are very particular about admitting the right people to their sites, but generally it is quite easy to sign up. The best part is that these sites are free for all internet users.

Social bookmarking leverages the popular social software phenomenon of tagging. Users can apply tags, or keywords, to the bookmarks they save. In social bookmarking, tagging creates a grass-roots taxonomy for the shared bookmarks. Users can search by tags to find bookmarks relevant to their interests. Taxonomies created through bookmarking are called “folksonomies.”

The majority of Web users nowadays are familiar with the term bookmarking — formally known as social bookmarking. Every time you save a Web Site to your list of favorites, with the intent of visiting it again in the future, you are actually bookmarking it.

Social bookmarking is also a way of bringing additional traffic to your site as there are many users who look at the ‘what’s new’ page and decide what to click on. An easy way of tackling social bookmarking is to use Onlywire or Diigo, both of which submit to multiple social bookmarking sites. Once you’ve signed up, this will submit to all the sites except reddit and digg.

Social bookmarking is a way for people to store and organize bookmarks of certain web pages on the Internet with help of metadata. Social bookmarking is done by saving your links to particular web pages that you want to remember or perhaps, share with other users. Social bookmarking is an all-out phenomena and is growing at a sonic boom clip. Understanding social bookmarking gives you the ability to reach millions of users you might otherwise miss. Properly utilizing social bookmarking gives you an additional edge in more traditional search engine marketing.

Social Bookmarking For Internet Marketers

Social bookmarking is one of the hottest Web 2.0 online trends. The concept of social bookmarking is about 10 years old, but due to it’s recent explosive growth, it has just now become one of the new internet “buzz words”.

It’s important for internet marketers to understand social book marking and how it can help them promote their products and services.

So, what is social bookmarking? What is social bookmarking’s purpose? Why is social bookmarking important to internet marketers?

What is Social Bookmarking?
You are probably already familiar with bookmarking web sites, that you want to visit again, using your Internet Explorer or Firefox web browser. The bookmarks you create to these sites are for your personal use and are stored on your computer.

Social Bookmarking is the next step in bookmarking, where you and others can share bookmarks to web sites you think may be of interest to others. This is done via onlinel Bookmarking services. After you have signed up for the Social Bookmarking service, you will be allowed to register a website, site description and tags (keywords) with the service – this is a bookmark. You will also be allowed to share this bookmark, or you can keep it private (depending on the service). This information is stored by the Social Bookmarking service, and is not stored on your computer.

What is Online Bookmarking’s Purpose?
There are really two major purposes behind Web 2.0 bookmarking.

1. The main purpose of Web 2.0 bookmarking is to have people with like interests bookmarks sites that they think would be useful, or interesting, to others who have the same interests. For example, I love fly fishing. Let’s say I find a site that contains some great custom-built fly fishing rods for an inexpensive price. I would bookmark that site with one of several possible bookmarking services. I would give the site I’m bookmarking a title, a description and tags (keywords) related to inexpensive custom built fly fishing rods. I would make sure the bookmark is set to public so others could find it, and would then have have created a social bookmark.

Now when people search the bookmarking service, using the tag words used to define the bookmarked sites, they are presented with a list of related sites. Using our fly fishing example above – When someone searches for “fly fishing rods” they would be given a list of related sites, including the custom fly fishing rod site we bookmarked. Most bookmarking services also have a rating system so the most popular sites are at the top of the list.

2. Another great benefit of Web 2.0 bookmarking is, once you have social bookmarked your favorite sites, you can easily find those bookmarked sites from any computer connected to the internet. You simply log into the online social bookmarking service and find the website you bookmarked. This can be very helpful if you have many websites you like to monitor, when you are away from home and you are not at your primary computer.

Why is bookmarking important to internet marketers?
Since online bookmarking sites are generally very popular sites that get a lot of traffic, they have high Google page ranks and are visited often by search engines. Submitting your site to the social bookmarking services, increases the chance your site will be crawled by the search engines. I have seen my sites crawled by Google only one day after registering my site to social bookmarking services.

Submitting to Web 2.0 bookmarking services is also a great way to get one way, incoming, high page rank links coming to your website which helps increase your page rank.

But most importantly, if your website is seen as having value to a group of people, your bookmark can be rated highly and can create a ton of very targeted traffic to your website.

Social bookmarking is growing at a phenomenal rate and if you want to market on the internet, you need to add online bookmarking to your set of internet marketing tools.

Why Social Bookmarking is Dead

I’m fairly new to the affiliate and internet marketing game as I’ve only been doing it for a year and a half, but in my time I have seen some tremendously effective tools and processes, and some monumental changes in what work and what doesn’t.

Since most of my business is based around building websites and getting ‘organic’ traffic from Google (also known as SEO marketing) I like to keep abreast of any new developments in the search engine’s algorithm (the thing that calculates which sites rank where) and what works and what doesn’t. Around March 2009 I bought a tool called Bookmark Demon, which lets you socially bookmark a page that you have made (whether it be a blog post, a simple website or a content-filled domain) to around 100 sites.

This tool worked great because it let you do it anonymously and quickly, with only a few captcha images to fill in at the start. The best part was that you simply filled in all of your login information for each site at the start, and then you could bookmark almost unlimited sites from then on.

For a few months I saw great results with my sites, and had many of my pages ranking in the top 5 for fairly competitive search terms without much work at all. The sites that I were building were fairly basic, and apart from one page of content only had a privacy policy and a page of terms and conditions. Fast forward to the end of 2009 and I have tried running the exact same process with nowhere near the same levels of results. It seems that Google has finally cracked on to tools such as these, and has put an end to the fun.

Social Bookmarking Strategy and 9 Additional Ways to Find Traffic

Blogs are well known ways to make yourself known online for personal as well as business reasons. You can easily make yourself a free blog and start posting your content right away. But, you will have done this in vain if no one is reading it. Here are ten things you can do to start bringing in the visitors your blog needs to serve its purpose.

Out of every single successful blog online, many more have failed to succeed. Being in charge of a blog should be treated as if you were running a business site. If you are not more that willing to put in your share of work and treat it seriously, you probably won’t be blogging anytime in the future.

This is not to say that all of the past failed bloggers weren’t serious about their blogging either. Mostly, new bloggers aren’t aware or properly prepared for the demand that is needed to make their blog a success. Simply creating the blog doesn’t mean that people will necessary come to you. You must pursue an audience and give them a reason to see what you have to say.

1. Fresh Content – you won’t find anyone who wants to visit a blog often and find it exactly the same as their last visit. Create and post new blog content at least twice a week. If you want to make this simpler write your posts ahead of time for uploading later.

2. Article Marketing – the niche you’ve chosen for your blog site should be one you think people will find interesting and useful. Create content not only for your blog but also to be sent to article directories (Article Marketing Strategy Software will greatly speed up this process). Place a link in the resource box of the Article so people will find you.

3. Social Networking – these sites are everywhere. Join Facebook, MySpace, Squidoo, Twitter or a dozen others and make connections.

4. Viral Web Marketing – going Viral is where you spread the word to anyone and everyone about your blog. Meantion it to friends, family and aquantances. Giving out business cards with your blog URL is another great option.

5. Use Your Site’s RSS Feeds – RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication.” Readers can subscribe to your feed and get notified when new content is posted. It is an easy way for people to keep in sync with your blog.

6. Submit Your Site to Search Engines – submitting your blog tells Search Engines to rank your blog.. It does not guarantee top ranking, though. It required you to do more work for that.

7. Joining Forums – right now you are a budding entrepreneur. You must start by marketing yourself to find traffic before you can profit. Become a participant of popular business forums, work at home forums or any others you find relevant to get advice and learn from each other. Be sure to add a link to your blog site in the signature line so others can find your Website.

8. Visit Similar Blogs – you can show appreciation to the people who visit you by also posting comments on their blogs. Be sure to add a link to your blog in your comment.

9. SEO Marketing – no matter what you are posting about, make sure you use relevant keywords. Keyword density between 3 and 10 percent will help search engines know how to rank you. Base your blog’s Keywords on what the most searched words used in Google for your niche are.

10. Social Bookmarking – make a Social Bookmarking Strategy and submit your blog and blog posts to Social Bookmarking sites. This is a great way for people to discover you.

Using these techniques will help get traffic heading in your direction. It may take some time, but you will find the visitors you need.
